Psychiatric Care for Adults
Especially for patients with medical illness or pregnancy
Focus on the "big picture." Not just your mental health--but your physical health, your relationships, your work, and the things that are most important to you. I've spent my career caring for patients at the interface of medicine and psychiatry: treating cancer patients at the UMD Greenebaum Cancer Center, seeing seriously injured patients at Shock Trauma and the Baltimore VA, assessing candidates for liver or kidney transplant, and helping patients and families make important decisions at the end of life. I am a former ObGyn resident who switched specialties to psychiatry and has been educating medical students, nurses and doctors about reproductive psychiatry issues and caring for pregnant women with psychiatric illness for many years. I am the former Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at GBMC, and a Psychiatry faculty member at University of Maryland School of Medicine. I am pleased to offer this expertise to patients in my private practice. It is a privilege to serve the community of Baltimore by providing quality outpatient psychiatric care carefully coordinated with your other medical providers in order to optimize both mind and body outcomes.
My Approach
Health Comes First
Understanding Your Heatlh
The Thoughtful Care You Deserve
For years, patients have depended on me to look carefully for medical illnesses like hypothyroidism, lupus and vitamin deficiencies that can cause neuropsychiatric symptoms, to consider how physical illness like cancer, heart disease and chronic pain impact mood, energy and sleep, and recognize how psychiatric problems can mimic physical issues (such as when panic attacks send patients to the emergency department with chest pain and shortness of breath). I offer this expertise anyone in need of a medically oriented psychiatrist. I’m dedicated to building long-lasting relationships with patients based on trust and attention to detail.
Depression and Anxiety Treatment
Helping You Get Healthy
I advocate a combined approach with psychotherapy, exercise, mindfulness, sleep, diet, strengthened connections to friends, family and community serving as a foundation for better mental health. Not all patients need psychiatric medication, but medication is an important tool for many patients, and is transformative and life saving for some. To me, nothing matters more than your health and safety, which is why IÂ put so much time and effort into getting to know you and your history, and making the correct diagnosis. We will work together to carefully explore your options and develop a treatment plan.
